An introduction to our new HR & People Operations practice
With a background in recruitment and internal talent management, Faye Tracey brings over 6 years’ experience to the Robert Walters HR & People Operations practice. She tells us about how her passion for HR was ignited, the trends she sees driving HR in San Francisco and why she loves working with tech startups at Robert Walters.
Why HR & People Operations recruitment?
I’m so excited to join the Robert Walters California HR & People Operations Practice. The importance of HR and the role it plays in helping to scale startups is more important than ever.
In the summer of 2015, the cover of the Harvard Business Review proclaimed “It’s time to blow up HR”, and included an article on “Rethinking Human Resources.” Furthermore in a recent interview, Marc Andreessen explained that one of the biggest mistakes tech startups make is not hiring HR leaders early enough. I believe Marc’s article in particular can be seen as a real turning point, and it highlights how HR finally has a seat at the table.
Indeed, people operations is one of the most dynamic and innovative spaces to be in right now, and I am excited to deliver my expertise in the area with Robert Walters California.
Experience in both external and internal recruitment roles
My main motivation at work has always been to work with people who are the best at what they do. My career started in London, recruiting business operations professionals for leading global law firms. I worked with Baker McKenzie, a fantastic client of mine, so when the opportunity presented itself to move into an internal recruitment role with them, I took the chance to see things from ‘the other side of the fence’.
In my role at Baker McKenzie my passion for HR developed, and I realized the incredible impact a true commercial Talent and HR partner could be to a business. HR was at the heart of everything, and in that role so many hats had to be worn. At the same time, the likes of Apple and Facebook were doing some incredibly innovative stuff in terms of the employee life cycle and changing the landscape completely of what working life looked life, and I wanted to be part of it. I missed the buzz of working with many different innovative companies and so I decided to move back to an external recruitment company, and that’s where I have been ever since.
How I can help your business?
I love working with people who are leaders in their field, who are passionate, ambitious, inspiringly optimistic and driven. I’ve always specialized in recruitment in people operations, mainly for growth-stage startups but also for global companies like Expedia. At Robert Walters California, I specialize in people operations recruitment at the leadership level, for both startups and larger enterprises. In particular, I will be recruiting for Heads of People, HR Directors, VPs of HR and CPOs.
